REMEMBERING OUR LOVED ONES

All parishioners are invited to remember their deceased loved ones in a special way this year over the Memorial Day weekend. For all Masses beginning with the Saturday Vigil Mass, May 26, through Memorial Day, Monday, May 28, there will be remembrance scrolls in the vestibule of the church. The names of those deceased parishioners whose funerals have been held at St. Paul’s in the past 18 years will be on these scrolls. Parishioners are invited to add the names of their deceased family members and friends who have had their funerals elsewhere. In this way the Bereavement Ministry (which has existed at St. Paul’s for 18 years) would like to encourage all the members of the St. Paul faith community to honor and pray for our beloved dead on this special weekend. Please be aware that we have included the names that were written from previous years, so it won’t be necessary to add them again.

FATHER RAY LAVELLE’S BIRTHDAY GIFT UPDATE!

Several weeks ago, it was suggested that we surprise Fr. Lavelle with a beautiful stained glass window for our church for his 82nd birthday. The fundraising began…and the response was overwhelming with more than 1100 parishioners donating enough to underwrite the cost of a $50,000 12’ Rose Window! Wow! A BIG THANKS to all who contributed!

On Sunday afternoon, April 1, a small contingency from St. Paul Parish went to visit Father Raymond Lavelle. The group had the unique pleasure of surprising him with the wonderful Happy Birthday video as well as the gift from the parishioners of the beautiful Rose Window. The video was a recording of more than 1500 parishioners singing “Happy Birthday” after the 10:30 a.m. Mass on March 25.

We all waited eagerly for our guest of honor to be escorted into the room. As he entered, we were greeted by his great smile and immediately felt welcomed. After some conversation, we indicated that we had a video message to share with him. When the video started to play, Father first thought it was of the dedication ceremony from our new church, but then quickly realized it was for him. It didn’t take long before tears started streaming down his cheeks. He was so touched by the video, he asked to watch it a second time! After the video was shown, the group presented him with a special birthday card that included a photo of the stained glass window donated by the parishioners in his honor. Father was deeply moved by both the video tribute and the gift of the 12’ Rose Window.

Father Lavelle asked us to please tell all the parishioners of St. Paul how happy they have made him. He stated, “I’m planning to place this birthday card on my door for everyone to see and I’m going to show this video to all of the sisters who take care of me. I also want to thank everyone for all the cards, well wishes and prayers you have sent all the while I have been here. I especially want to thank everyone for the stained glass window and their generosity. This window is the greatest gift I’ve ever received in my entire life.”  WATCH BIRTHDAY VIDEO BELOW:
