2012 Calendar
Overview
Tennis is offered to all students currently in grades
6-8. Prior experience helps but is not necessary to play. It is not a sanctioned
sport by the Diocese of Columbus. Matches will be played against other Catholic,
private and public middle schools.
Goals

Learn the rules of the game

Improving the students’ tennis skills so that they can compete at the middle school level and be more prepared if they decide to play in high school

Promote having fun with this lifelong sport

Learning good sportsmanship in a Catholic environment
Tryouts
There are no tryouts for girls or boys.
Minimum Playing Time (per player)
A varsity and reserve team will play at each match depending on the availability of players on the opposing team. We will make the best effort for each player to play a match against the other team. The varsity roster consists of three singles and 2 doubles courts. The reserve team may be a mixture of singles and doubles.
Matches
GIRLS: Matches start at the end of August and will end in early October.
BOYS: Matches start at the end of March and will end in mid-May.
Depending on time restraints, varsity matches may be 3 sets with the last set
being a tiebreaker or one pro-set. Reserve matches are usually one pro-set.
Practices
GIRLS: Practices start in August and will end in early October. The majority
of practices will be at the start of the season with practices interspersed with
the matches.
BOYS: Practices start in early March (weather permitting) and end in May. The
majority of practices will be at the start of the season with practices
interspersed with the matches.
Equipment
Players will need their own tennis racket. Tennis balls will be provided. A St. Paul tennis shirt will be provided for matches. More details will be provided at the first few practices.
